KOCHI: District Collector Shaikh Pareed has said that instructions have been given to various departments for expediting development activities in the Goshree islands.Elankunnapuzha, Njarakkal,  Nayarambalam, Edavanakkad, Kuzhupilly, Pallipuram, Kadamakkudi and Mulavukad panchayaths, along with Fort Vypeen, Gundu, Thanthonnithuruth islands are the areas which come under the Goshree Development Authority (GIDA). Projects worth Rs 300 crore, including drinking water, ferry services and infrastructure housing are being implemented in these places.A team of officials headed by the Collector had conducted an inspection on Goshree Road the other day. “The Kerala State Construction Corporation has been entrusted with the work and is expected to be completed within two weeks. The work costs around Rs 40 lakhs,” the Collector  said. “Tenders have been invited for beautification of Goshree Road and the maintenance of roads attached to it. The agency which won the contract will have to meet the cost of the project. In turn, they will be given advertising rights on the road, which will help it generate the amount spend for road construction,” Pareed said.He said that construction of the road from Goshree Junction to Chathiath has been almost completed. A Goshree Complex, which will house a boat jetty and a GIDA office, will be constructed on this 20 cents of land at a cost of Rs 7 crore. “Inauguration of the road and foundation stone of the Goshree Complex will be laid soon.  The district administration is also planning a project for the beautification of Vypeen, Fort Kochi, Mattnchery and Ernakulam boat jetties,” he added.
