Tension prevailed in UP's Bulandshahr following the alleged desecration.
Lucknow: Tension prevailed in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district following the alleged desecration of the Quran, the police said on Saturday.
"Several pages of the holy book were found burnt late on Friday night in Ahangram locality in Bulandshahr," police officer Alok Kumar said.
"Following this, several members of the Muslim community on Saturday took to the streets and also attempted to assault members of the Hindu community, whom they blamed for the desecration," Kumar said.
Members of the Muslim community also blocked roads, disrupting traffic in various parts of Bulandshahr, which is about 400 km from here.
"Sensing a communal flare-up in the district, security has been beefed up," he added.
