New Delhi: Aiming at adopting a "best solid waste management plan" in city, Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC), an advisory body of the AAP government, on Thursday held a conference with different experts.
According to government, it wants to encourage recycling by segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at the household level and also find a solution to the problem of littering or disposal of construction debris in public places.
The agenda of the conference, chaired by DDC's vice-chairman Ashish Khetan, was to bring all stakeholders in solid waste management on a common platform to discuss the challenges and all potential solutions for consideration of the Delhi Government.
In the conference, municipal corporation officials were also present. DDC said it would suggest pilot projects in some parts of the city based on best practices from across the world.
It also said that Ghazipur landfill improvement and other such vulnerable landfill improvement plans will be recommended to the government.
According to DDC, C Srinivasan, project director at the Indian Green Service, an environmental organisation, spoke about the solid and liquid resource management model, also known as the "Vellore model" that has been adopted by many states in India.
"The existing gaps in the functioning and future plans of the NDMC and EDMC were discussed in detail when they made presentations on their waste management technologies including the widely criticised waste-to-energy (WTE) plants," DDC said in a statement.
