Asif, a carpenter by profession, jumped in between the coaches when the train heading to Huda City Centre entered the Saket Metro station.

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro witnessed a suicide attempt on Tuesday when a 23-year-old man threw himself in between the coaches of a running train. Asif, a carpenter by profession, jumped in between the coaches when the train heading to Huda City Centre on the yellow line was entering the Saket Metro station.

The people at the station were completely unaware about Asif's intention and were taken aback when he tried to jump to his death. He, however, was rescued by CISF personnel present at the platform.

Train services were stopped following the incident and the doors of the Metro train were shut with people locked inside. It was only after 4-5 minutes that the passengers were let out as they slammed the glass doors complaining uneasiness.

The train services were restored soon after the man was rescued. Asif, a resident of Khanpur in South Delhi, confessed that he wanted to commit suicide. The youth is reportedly mentally challenged, CISF personnel TR Meena said.

Asif has been taken to Qutub Minar metro station for further investigation.
