Deer shot to death in Hassan

HASSAN: An eight-year-old deer rescued by villagers succumbed to bullet injuries at a coffee estate near Belagodu village of Sakleshpur taluk on Friday.Sources said that the deer sustained bullet injuries on its neck, stomach and thigh.The hunters might have shot the deer for flesh, skin or horns. The deer fell in to an open well while escaping.Learning about the incident, the villagers reportedly rushed to the spot and fished out the body from the well.The deer died before forest officials — who only arrived at least two hours later — could arrive. Villagers allege that the deer could have been saved had the officials arrived early.
