New Delhi: The verdict of the Juvenile Justice Board on the minor accused in the December 16 Delhi gangrape case has been posted to August 21 as the judgement on BJP leader Subrmanian Swamy's plea is still awaited.
The Supreme Court is likely to pronounce its order this week on the maintainability of Swamy's plea seeking prosecution of the juvenile accused in the December 16 case under normal criminal laws. An apex court bench headed by Chief justice P Sathasivam said that it will pronounce its order on the plea either on August 21 or August 22.
Swamy on Wednesday told the court that his petition was on the larger question whether the Juvenile Justice Act was in consonance with the article 253 of the constitution and the mention of juvenile accused in the gangrape case was incidental.
The minor accused was 17 when the 23-year-old girl was brutally assaulted and gangraped inside a private bus in Delhi. She later died after battling for life for 13 days in a Singapore Hospital. He was declared a minor by the Juvenile Justice Board in January.
