CHENNAI: A day after the Madras High Court passed a resolution on setting up a comprehensive security system on the premises, the police deployment was very thin. Barely three or four cops manned each of the five entry points. Also, no frisking or vehicle checking.Chief Justice M Y Eqbal got a first-hand feel of the situation after he made surprise visits to all the entry points on Thursday evening. He instructed the cops to note down the names of visitors and the purpose of their visits. The CJ later told journalists that only advocates’ vehicles sporting advocate symbol would be allowed inside the court. No vehicles of outsiders would be permitted unless they specified the purpose of their visit. The comprehensive security system would be implemented step-by-step.When the presence of just a couple of police personnel manning the gates was pointed out, the CJ said that the resolution adopted on Wednesday was communicated to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, who in turn forwarded it to his higher-ups. “We are doing our job and it is for them to deploy police. We will hold a meet with the police officers and discuss the issue. I am doing the best for security,” the CJ added. Meanwhile, S Prabakaran, president, TN Advocates Association, condemned the blast at Delhi HC on September 7.
