Criminals Drill Hole, Steal Soiled Currency Notes Worth Crores from a Moving Train
When the train arrived at Egmore station in Chennai, it was discovered that two boxes were tampered with and by drilling a hole through roof of the coach thieves decamped with some cash.

CHENNAI – In an ingenious robbery incident, soiled currency notes worth Rs 6 crores was stolen by unknown people, last night.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was transporting soiled currency notes worth Rs. 342 Crore in more than 220 carton boxes from Salem to Chennai on Monday night.

When the train arrived at Egmore station in Chennai, it was discovered that two boxes were tampered with and by drilling a hole through roof of the coach thieves decamped with some cash.

The Police suspect that a few lakhs of rupees could have been burgled during the transfer of money.

The Railway officials have confirmed the incident. In a WhatsApp message to News18 they said “Rs. 342 crore was carried in 226 boxes. Of them, 2 boxes found to be tampered with and money was spilling out and point of entry found to be a hole made through roof of the train coach".

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducting the investigation.
