KOCHI: Pointing the fingers at CPM for hatching a conspiracy to kill NDF activist Fasal, the CBI on Tuesday submitted before the Kerala High Court that certain party workers, who are hardcore criminals, were hired by the party to execute the murder. CPM Kannur district secretariat member Karayil Rajan and Thiruvangad local committee secretary Karayil Chandrasekharan assigned the work to the criminals led by Kodi Suni, who is also involved in the T P Chandrashekaran murder case, the CBI statement said. It said that the two leaders were controlling the party in the area. The CBI filed the statement in response to a bail petition filed by the two leaders. The prime witness had given statements that after the murder there was an attempt on the part of the petitioners to divert the course of investigation. The leaders also threatened and offered cash to the witness, the CBI said. The CPM leaders had denied the allegations and pleaded innocence. They had also claimed that the ‘Thalassery Fasal murder was not a political killing. Fasal was never a party (CPM) worker. He never resigned from the party nor was he an active member of the NDF; hence there was no enmity between him and the party’.However, the CBI made it clear that Fasal was a party worker and he joined the NDF after quitting the CPM. He also propagated NDF ideology and this infuriated the party and the local leaders. “The motive is very clear from the evidence collected so far,” the CBI submitted.
