Cops told to produce woman in court

CHENNAI: The VIII Metropolitan Magistrate in GT has directed the Virugambakkam police to produce P Kalpana, proprietress of Hi-Tech Properties in Saligramam in the court on March 20, 2012.Kalpana is the wife of Palanivelu, who had produced the Tamil feature film ‘Kandha’, starring Karan. Originally, while entertaining a criminal complaint from financier S Mohan Kumar of Sowcarpet, the magistrate had in September last issued a bailable arrest warrant asking the Virugambakkam police to produce the woman on December 7 last. As the woman was not produ-ced, the magistrate posted the matter to March 20 with the direction.According to the complainant, Kalpana availed of a loan of `20 lakh from him in January 2009. In discharge of the liability, she issued a cheque for `20 lakh on February 28 last year. However, the cheque bounced when presented to the bank. Hence the complaint to punish Kalpana for an offence under Sec 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
