Container transactions at Vallarpadam terminal get a fillip

Accelerating the efforts to promote faster container transactions through the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Vallarpadam, one more Container Freight Station (CFS) is getting ready for operations.

The Cochin Port Trust has invited the tender for setting up of a cargo and logistics centre and a CFS.

The proposed CFS is coming up on 7.

40 hectares of land which would be handed over to the developer by the Cochin Port Trust on lease.

 Wi t h t h e C e n t r a l Government easing the Cabotage Law, logistics business is picking up at Vallarpadam.

The port management has planned four CFSs.

Aimed at developing Vallarpadam into a major logistics hub, the Cochin Port Trust has earmarked 54 acres of land near the ICTT for developing the CFSs with private participation.

The CFS facility near ICTT considered to be a great support to the traders as they can meet all their shipping requirements under one roof, that too near the ICTT.

The CFS is also expected to generate a lot of employment opportunities.

The Central Government had earlier this year granted clearance for the second CFS being developed by the stateowned Infrastructure Kerala Limited (INKEL) and MIV Logistics Private Limited.

INKEL’s CFS is coming up on 18.

5 acres of land on the left side of the road leading to the Vallarpadam Church.

According to a senior official of the Cochin Port Trust, six CFSs are needed near a transshipment terminal like ICTT Vallarpadam Terminal.

The CFS developed by the Gateway Distriparks (Kerala) (GDKL), the joint venture company floated by Gateway Distriparks and Chakiat Group has already started functioning at Vallarpadam two months ago.

This CFS has a warehousing facility of approximately 25,000 sqft and storage facilities for around 1,000 TEUs and a customs station
