New Delhi: After Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram said that BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi practices 'crony capitalism', the saffron party retaliated strongly saying the Union Minister's allegations are just 'white lies'. "When Chidambaram says that Modi practices crony capitalism, it is all white lies. I would like to say that Congress-led UPA government and Chidambaram are the patrons of crony capitalism in India," said BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The BJP leader also rebutted Chidambaram's claims that no one paid heed to senior party leader Yashwant Sinha's set of 18 questions posed to him. "Chidambaram said that no paper paid heed to Yashwant Sinha's 18 questions. He is wrong, there are many papers who picked it up," Ravi Shankar Prasad said while flashing some newspaper clippings.

He also took a jibe at Chidambaram for not contesting the general elections. "Chidambaram's decision of not contesting is a sign of a tottering Congress government," he said.

Ravi Shankar Prasad also lambasted the Union Minister for daring Modi to contesting from Sivaganga. "Chidambaram dared Modi to contest from Sivaganga, if he is so sure about his hold on Sivaganga then why isn't he contesting, the BJP leader went on to ask.

Earlier in the day, the Finance Minister had launched an acerbic attack on opposition BJP saying, "Indian economy was at its worst during 2000-2002 when Yashwant Sinha was the Finance Minister."

Chidambaram's statement came after Sinha posed a set of 18 questions concerning issues like price rise, high levels of fiscal and current account deficits, economic growth and employment among others and demanded answers from him.
