The Cabinet which met here on Thursday has reportedly authorised Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to decide three names to be nominated to the state Legislative Council in recognition of their contribution towards the society through various fields including cinema, social service and journalism.
According to official sources, the Cabinet met while sessions at both Houses of the legislature were on. It authoraised Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to finalise the names and fill the vacancies caused by the retirement of the sitting members.
The seats have been lying vacant following the completion of the six-year term in the Upper House including that of JD(S) members Y S V Datta, H C Neeravari and BJP’s Srinath.
Senior ministers including Water Resources minister Basavaraj Bommai and Higher Education Minister C T Ravi among others were present in the Cabinet which was chaired by Shettar.
According to party sources, the prominent names which were reportedly considered for the nominations, include, actor Shruti, Film Acadamy chairperson Thara, film director Madan Mallu, BJP leader Laxminarayan and others.
