RAMANATHAPURAM: Attention to detail and proper security arrangement paved way for smooth conclusion of Muthuramalinga Thevar guru pooja at Pasumpon village near Kamuthi on Sunday. The birth anniversary of freedom fighter U Muthuramalinga Thevar is celebrated every year with pomp and fervour at Pasumpon. But the task was much bigger this time around. The September 11 police firing at the Five Point Road junction in Paramakudi has resulted in the death of six persons and there was fear of retaliation by some elements during the jayanthi.Taking note of the situation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had convened a special meeting of the top police officials in Chennai in the run-up to the Thevar Jayanthi. Arrangements were made for deployment of police personnel in large numbers in the district. Even several intelligence personnel were deployed in sensitive villages to monitor the situation. All the efforts paid off when no untoward incidents — not even stone-pelting — were reported from any part of the district.
