BANGALORE: In a day-long joint drive by the police department and several NGOs, about 292 children who were forced into beggary were rescued on Friday.The police along with the personnel of various NGOs swung into action in various areas that are frequented by child beggars. Children were rescued from places like railway station, Kempe Gowda bus station, Majestic area and other major junctions.They have been taken care by Child Welfare Committee, the police said.“The children are being questioned about their parents and native places. If its found that their parents have forced them into beggary, they will be arrested,” the police added.The police are also investigating whether organized gangs are working behind the racket.“Efforts will be made to rescue all the children who are forced to beggary in the city. The rescue operations will continue in the coming days also. In all seven police divisions of the city, a police inspector has been designated to act as a special juvenile officer,” the police informed.Police are further investigating if the racket in the city has spread across the state.
