Changing zonal system not easy: Pawar
The BCCI President says it's not easy to change the zonal selection system as it needs amendments in the BCCI.

New Delhi: BCCI President Sharad Pawar has said it was not easy to change the prevailing zonal selection system as it would require amendments in the constitution of the BCCI.

"If you have to change the system, you have to amend the constitution for which you need support from zonal representatives which is not easy," Pawar said.

Pawar was reacting to the charge of former coach John Wright in his book that Indian selectors were regionally biased while picking players for the national squad.

The BCCI chief, however, did not think that the zonal system was flawed.

"Now-a-days players get huge money, temptation is high on both sides. But I don't think the zonal system is wrong. The selection procedure is such that it happens that a player who has played just one or two matches is supported," he said.

Asked if his comments meant that Wright was not entirely wrong in his observation, he said, "sometimes it happens" and admitted that there was indeed a scope for improvement.
