CHENNAI: Whether it is about donating money, spending time or just a thoughtful gesture for the less fortunate, participants in India’s largest giving festival, Joy of Giving, have done all this and more. Over the last two years, this mass celebration has raised over Rs 30 crore for various causes.Held in the week of Gandhi Jayanthi, the fest starts on October 2 and ends on October 8. CIOSA, a network of NGOs in TN, will facilitate what may be the biggest event of the week. Called Aram Seiya Virumbu, the weeklong activities will enable every citizen to take part in the event. Saulina Arnold of TNVHA, said, “If you are a doctor and want to give back to the society, the Joy of Giving week is an ideal time.” Sai Lakshmi, founder of Ekam, an NGO which focuses on children’s healthcare rights, said, “cleaning the hospitals will help prevent infections picked up in the hospitals.
