New Delhi: Partying and living life on the highway might be the mantra for Generation Next but very often a couple of drinks with friends can land you into lots of trouble and most of the time it is the person sleeping on the pedestrian who ends up losing his life. Here's a look at some famous cases of drunken driving:

On January 10, 1999, Sanjiv Nanda, main accused in the BMW hit-and-run-run case mowed down five people including two policemen on Lodi road in the Capital. He was on his way back from a late night party in Gurgaon.

On September 28, 2002, actor Salman Khan drove his Land Cruiser over sleeping pavement dwellers outside the American Express Bakery near Bandra. One bakery worker died while three others suffered serious injuries.

On March 26, 2005, Ravindra Mhatre, Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray's personal assistant killed two persons and injured others after he lost control of his vehicle.

On February 5, 2006, Neel Chatterjee, ex-vice president of Standard Chartered Bank was arrested for a hit and run incident. He knocked down a 60-year-old watchman and then sped away.

On November 12, 2006, 21-year-old, Alistair Perreira drove his Toyota Corolla over seven persons sleeping on a Bandra pavement and crushed them to death after a drinking binge.

Last year, approximately 1893 drivers in Delhi were prosecuted for drunken driving, while in Mumbai 4436 people have been booked in the last three months alone.
