KOCHI: In a bid to bring knowledge a click away in classrooms, the district education department is on a drive to set up digital libraries in all government schools.“Digital libraries already exist in many schools but they are not well organised. Some schools do but they are not well equipped. So we will be seeking the support of the State IT Mission for aid to make this a reality,” said Deputy Director of Education M D Murali. The Government Higher Secondary School, Ezhippuram, a Smart School and model for other schools for effective ICT-enabled learning, has a digital library which will be full-fledged and we want other schools also to have a similar facility, he said. The State IT Mission has given around 30 CDs and State Institute of Educational Technology has given about 150 CDs. More CDs will be secured to pep up the libraries.Children can learn better with audio-visual aid and teachers can guide them for a better understanding of the subject. “We will be making a proposal in this regard soon,” he said.He also said that the Vidyadeepam programme for economically and socially weaker section of students with extra coaching and nutritional food is going on in full swing in all the schools with the aim of garnering good results for the district in the SSLC examinations.
