PURI: Preparations for the Rath Yatra have reached final stage with artisans, craftsmen and weavers busy decorating the wooden chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.While the sculptors are busy carving images of Parswadevatas that would be fixed on all sides of the three chariots, the roopakaras (traditional painters) are giving finishing touches to the chariots. This apart, the tailors are busy stitching cloth rolls for the chariots.
Besides, the municipality is sprucing up the Grand Road. All the structures on the road are being given a coat of ivory colour paint for uniformity.

Eviction drives are being carried out on a daily basis. Hoardings and billboards, obstructing the view of the temple, have been pulled down.

Security arrangements have been put in place. Addressing mediapersons on Tuesday, SP Amitendranath Sinha said the State and the Central intelligence teams would function jointly to check any possible terrorist attack during the fete. Quick response teams would be deployed at strategic locations on the Grand Road to respond to emergency situations. Several bomb disposal squads would also be deployed and closed circuit cameras installed in and around the temple and along the Grand Road to monitor crowd movement. The watchtowers along the beach would be manned by police and about 100 life guards deployed for any emergency.
