BELLARY: With Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah accepting the resignation of former health minister B Sreeramulu, which was tendered a month ago, Bellary’s influence over the state government has been largely diminished.Enraged over not being granted a ministerial berth, and finding mention in the Lokayukta report on illegal mining, Sreeramulu submitted his resignation on September 4, which created a furore in the political landscape of the state. The subsequent arrest of his close aide G Janardhana Reddy put paid to any feelings of dissent of his.The government’s delay in accepting Sriramulu’s resignation had come under fire. State BJP president K S Eshwarappa had denied him a berth in the government.Having active fan clubs in Gadag, Koppal and Bellary, it is now presumed that Sriramulu may have a fresh start; his decision to wait till his Reddy gets released from jail is worth watching. However, Bellary’s populace seem to have a different perception about him. Many persons to whom Express spoke to opined that Sriramulu is a mass leader, and that he would represent the district in the govenrment again. An advocate to whom Express spoke to said that Janardhana Reddy’s arrest would not hamper his political prospects.
