HYDERABAD: BJP senior leader and former Union minister B Dattatreya has taken objection to PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana conducting review meetings with ministers on their departments' functioning. He told reporters here on Sunday that no PCC chief had ever done that the state.Only the chief minister had the authority to hold review meetings with ministers and departmental heads, he said and accused the PCC chief of crossing his limits and interfering in governance. As a cabinet minister Botcha can play his role but should not call ministers to the party office to discuss functioning, he said. The BJP leader criticised agricultural commissioner Usha Rani's statement that there was no shortage of Bt cotton seed in the state. He said there was serious seed shortage in Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Nizamabad districts where farmers were demanding Neeraja and Nuziveedu brand of seeds. A seed packet, costing Rs 930, was being sold for Rs 2,300 on the black market, he noted and alleged that the government failed to take action against black-marketeers and also failed to implement the Seeds Price Control Act which was brought in by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.“The area under cotton cultivation has increased all over the state and as per the government assessment one crore cotton seed packets are required but the agricultural department has made available only 45 lakh packets,'' Dattatreya said and urged the government to seek Centre’s permission for export of 40 lakh tonnes of cotton.
