About 60,000 bol bom devotees made a beeline for Vedvyas temple on the outskirts of the city on Sunday evening.
Sources said the devotees from Vedvyas trudged around 25 km to the most sought-after destination of Ghoghardham near Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district. They worshipped the Shiva Linga with holy water in the wee hours of the last Monday of Shravan month.
Vedvyas Trust Board (VTB) secretary Anupam Ray said the devotees jostled for space at Vedvyas from 6 pm on Sunday to 3 am. Fetching water from the southward flowing Brahmani river, formed by the confluence of the Koel and the Sankh rivers at Vedvyas, has been their ultimate choice. Devotees from far-flung areas, including Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, congregate here, he said, adding that Vedvyas drew over 1.30 lakh on all the four Sundays.
The Ghoghardham temple too fell short of space amid heavy inflow of devotees. They defied hours of tiring walk and patiently waited in serpentine queues to offer obeisance to Lord Shiva.
Sundargarh SP Sanjeev Arora said being the last Monday Ghoghardham witnessed huge footfalls.
