Body of drowned student fished out

KOCHI: The body of Sachin Vinayak, 16, who had gone missing on Friday after he drowned in the Periyar, was fished out on Saturday afternoon. The search operations lasted for around 20 hours from Friday evening. “The body was found around 100 feet down the river. It was handed over to the relatives after the postmortem examination”, said K K Yacob, sub-inspector, Eloor police station. The incident happened on Friday when five students of the St Joseph’s School, Thrikkakara were taking bath at the IAC bathing ghat in the Periyar on Friday. Sachin’s friend Antony Tony also died in the incident. Antony Tony, whose body was found on Friday, drowned in his attempt to rescue Sachin. Shrihari, Yuvakanth and Delji were the other students in the group. Sachin’s father Sudhakara Menon works in a local company and mother Geetha Kumari is village officer at Parakkadavu.
