BHUBANESWAR: The Scheduled Caste (SC) wing of the State BJP unit on Sunday demanded stringent action against the culprits of alleged rape cases at Paikamal and Pipili. Passing a political resolution on the concluding day of the two-day State Executive Committee meeting here, the BJP Anusuchit Jati Morcha demanded amendment to the Orissa Reservation of Vacancies (ORV) Act. The revised law should have provisions for exemplary action against the Government officers flouting the Act. The meeting, presided over by State unit president of the Morcha Baidhar Mallick, assailed the Government alleging that it was not making sincere efforts to fill up the vacant posts reserved for SCs when deserving candidates are available. In a resolution, the Morcha urged the Government to fill up the vacant posts through special drives and make provisions to implement the reservation facility in the private sector. It further demanded at least 30 per cent reservation for SC students in all residential schools of the State. Alleging that many poor SC families of the State are still landless and homeless, the BJP Morcha demanded homestead and agricultural land for them in time scale. The Morcha further demanded a White Paper on the number of people assisted by the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Financial Development Corporation, since the BJD-led Government came to power in 2000. While the STs have been strongly opposing dilution of the reservation policy through inter-change, the BJP Morcha demanded posts, reserved for STs and lying vacant due to non-availability of suitable candidates, be filled up by recruiting SC candidates. This should be applicable in case of admissions to academic institutions too. The meeting further demanded stipend hike to SC students studying in schools and colleges. The meet was attended by national secretary of the Anusuchit Jati Morcha Mahavir Singh. BJP organising secretary Panchanan Rout presented the road map. Former ministers Bimbadhar Kuanr and Pradeep Nayak spoke.
