Charging the JD(U) government with casting aspersion on former party ministers for their extended stay in ministerial bungalows long after being sacked, the BJP on Friday asked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to quickly expand his ministry to solve this problem as the new and former ministers could swap their accommodations.
The chief minister should expand his ministry without delay so that the new ministers could move into bungalows being occupied by eight ex-BJP ministers who would then shift in accommodations vacated by the new JD(U) ministers, BJP state unit president Mangle Pandey told reporters.
The Building Construction department has issued notices to eight former BJP ministers asking them to vacate the bungalows allotted to them as they were not minister now.
Slamming the state government for serving the notice without providing alternative accommodations as per their entitlement as lawmakers, Pandey said the exercise was meant to sully the image of senior BJP leaders by creating a perception that they were reluctant to vacate the bungalows.
"I see no reason that the eight ex-BJP ministers will not vacate their bungalows if they are provided alternative accommodations by the state government," Pandey said. On former health minister Ashwani Chaube reportedly daring the state government to get his bungalow vacated, Pandey expressed ignorance about his senior colleague's remarks.
About the special status demand, Pandey said though his party favoured grant of such a status to Bihar, he was of the view that the incentive alone would not suffice to resolve development deficit of the backward state. In addition to the special status, Bihar required special package too so that the funds could be utilized to develop infrastructure to fast track development, he said.
Meanwhile, Ajit Rai, a former Saran district councillor, joined the BJP in Patna.
