Gopalganj Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat was transferred on Thursday. He has now been appointed as the Superintendent of Police of East Champaran (Motihari). In place of Swarn Prabhat, Muzaffarpur City SP Awadhesh Dixit has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police of Gopalganj.
Swarn Prabhat will be remembered for his tough stance against crime in Gopalganj. Known for his efforts in curbing criminal activities and dismantling the drug network, Prabhat made significant strides in solving numerous pending cases. During his tenure, he tightened the noose on several notorious criminals, including the arrest of henchmen linked to prominent criminals like gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Jharkhand’s Aman Sahu.
Under his watch, drug and liquor mafias were apprehended in Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, and brought to justice. He spearheaded several initiatives in Gopalganj, including Dial-112, the execution of warrants, and the recovery of illicit liquor.
Pratibha Rani, the wife of 2017 batch IPS officer Swarn Prabhat, is an IAS officer. The transfer of Swarn Prabhat has left the police fraternity in Gopalganj disappointed, as well as businesspeople, students, and members of various social organizations.
Gopalganj district is expected to present new challenges for the new SP, Awadhesh Dixit. In his new role, Dixit will need to closely monitor criminal activities, effectively enforce a zero-tolerance policy, and maintain public trust in the police. He faces the task of enhancing both the crime and social systems, for which he needs to come up with strategic plans to address these issues.
The new Superintendent of Police of Gopalganj, Awadhesh Dixit, is a 2019 batch IPS officer. His first posting was as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Begusarai, followed by a posting as SDPO of Paliganj. He then served as ASP in Muzaffarpur before his recent role as City SP in Muzaffarpur, from which he was transferred to Gopalganj.
IPS Awadhesh Dixit is a graduate from IIT Bombay. He was allotted Bihar cadre after he qualified UPSC.
Dixit’s wife, Kamya Mishra, is also an IPS officer. She secured the 172nd rank in the UPSC examination in 2019 at the age of 22. Initially allocated to the Himachal Pradesh cadre, she was later transferred to the Bihar cadre.
