Justice Srivastava confirmed the victim's story and awarded the two accused seven years prison term in two days.

Rohtas (Bihar): Believe it or not, a sessions court in Rohtas district has set the record for the shortest judicial proceeding in India, by delivering a judgement after two days.

According to a DNA report, Justice Arun Kumar Srivastava began hearing the case on July 25 and awarded the two accused in the case prison terms of seven years each on July 27.

The judge only asked the doctor to confirm whether a girl had been raped. On receiving confirmation, he asked the police whether the persons arrested were involved in the incident, heard the victim's story and pronounced the verdict.

The speed with which the judgement was delivered is unprecedented in India as the Government only last week disclosed in Parliament that over 58,000 cases of rape were pending in various trial courts across the country at the end of last year.

In June last year, a Jodhpur court sentenced the rapists of a German tourist within 20 days of the crime. This year, in April, a Jaipur court sentenced a rapist of a German student within a week.
