New Delhi: The initial postmortem report released by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) says that late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's secretary, Bibek Maitra, died of drug overdose.
However, according to a close associate of Pramod Mahajan, Sudhanshu Mittal, it was very unlikely that Mahajan's son Rahul Mahajan and Maitra took drugs.
"Hard to imagine that Bibek and Rahul took drugs," Mittal said.
He added that they were taken to Delhi's Apollo Hospital for better treatment.
"Let us not jump to conclusions and let the police do its job. The truth will come out soon," he added.
Meanwhile, Additional DCP, Delhi Police, Manish Agarwal said, "All the persons in the scene of crime will be interrogated including, Mahajan family associates Sudhanshu Mittal and Harish Sharma."
"Bibek Maitra's death was not due to drug overdose. We can't say anything till the viscera report is out," Agarwal added.
The mortal remains of Maitra were cremated at the Turbhe crematorium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
Mumbai BJP chief Prakash Mehta was among the party leaders who attended the funeral.
Maitra's body was brought to Mumbai from Delhi on Saturday night and shifted to the Municipal Hospital at Vashi where it was kept for a night.
Maitra was declared dead on arrival at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi in the early hours of Friday after a party at late Mahajan's residence that was attended by Mahajan's son Rahul and four others.
