A top Bengaluru school is now facing a threat of disaffiliation after it forged minority certificates to keep away students from economic weaker sections under the Right to Education Act.

The 57-yr old institution has been accused of forging minority certificates given by National Minorities Commission.Karnataka government claims that the school faked the certificate to keep away students from economic weaker sections under the Right to Education Act.

"The question before the govt is now if they fall in line with RTE, then the options are open...keeping in view the parents and students, the government will have to take a call" said Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Tanveer Sait.

The school denies that it has forged any certificate and the school authorities claim that CBSE is referring to a fake application.

The school now faces cases against all its six branches. The school has long claimed for a linguistic minority status as it is run by people from Kerala. As per law, minority schools do not have to admit students from economically weaker sections. "Whatever privileges given to religious minorities, why denying the same to linguistic minorities? Even though the constitution says there is no difference between religious and linguistic, so this discrimination has to be decided" said KP Gopalakrishna, Chairman, National Education Trust.

Government claims that the national minorities commission itself has disowned the certificate.

This dispute itself is headed to the courts, but the case has also raised larger questions on how effectively the right to education Act is implemented across the country and whether there are serious flaws in enforcing it, specially on minority institutions.
