BNAGALORE: The High Court on Wednesday observed that the a monarch is better the present government. He allotted 308 acres for the Beggars Colony and the present government is taking a major portion of it for other purposes, the court criticised and came down heavily on the government while hearing a case related to Beggars Colony. While admitting the PIL filed by Health Foundation requesting the court to direct the State Government not to alienate the Beggars Colony land, the Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice J S Khhar and Justice H G Ramesh observed,”The monarch is better than the present government. He had granted 308 acres and 3 guntas of land for the Beggars Colony and the state government is taking away a major portion of it.” The Bench issued notices to different departments including BMRCL, BWSSB, BDA and BBMP in this regard. The petitioners have contended that the State Government is planning to transfer over 123 acres of the land belonging to the Beggars Colony to the BDA for developing infrastructure which is commercial in nature. Out of the 308 acres granted by the monarch, only 38 acres would remain with the Colony if the property is transferred as the successive governments have leased out the remaining land to different parties.
