Mumbai: A senior policeman from Mumbai police – who took the first statement from Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist in the Mumbai attacks – was involved in an ugly controversy on Sunday.
ACP Tanaji Ghatge allegedly assaulted, fired at and injured three people including a woman in interior Maharashtra after he got into an argument with them.
Ghatge was on his way to Beed in Maharashtra when he reportedly got into an argument with a couple on the outskirts of Ahmednagar, because they allegedly refused to let him overtake their vehicle.
Ghatge allegedly beat up the man and his wife, a worker with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena worker.
The woman, Kalpana Gaikwad, who was pregnant, was reported to have suffered a miscarriage.
When local villagers came to the couple's rescue, Ghatge allegedly fired at them injuring one person.
Police have detained Ghatge, but an FIR is yet to be registered.
