Bar licence to 3-star hotels: Kerala to move SC
Kerala's contention is that liquor is a state monopoly subject and it doesn't come under the HC purview.

Thiruvananthapuram: The State Government on Tuesday decided to move the Supreme Court against the Division Bench of the Kerala High Court quashing the amendments brought to the Kerala Foreign Liquor Rules under the Kerala Abkari Act, deleting three-star hotels from the category entitled to bar licence, for retail sale of liquor in the hotels.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. It has been decided to entrust Taxes Secretary Ajith Kumar and Advocate General K P Dandapani to prepare the affidavit to be submitted in the Supreme Court.

Kerala’s contention according to the Excise Minister is that liquor is a state monopoly subject and it will not come under the High Court’s purview. It was also decided to engage senior lawyers to present state’s views in the Supreme court.
