BANGALORE: Awards were given for the best architectural thesis to students from colleges across the country at an awards function here on Saturday. The architecture department of the BMS College of Engineering hosted the 6th National Level Council of Architecture (CoA)Awards. School of Architecture, Phagwara, bagged the first place, Kamala Raheja Vidyanidhi, Mumbai, came second while RV College of Engineering, Bangalore, took the third place.“Bangalore is now the architecture capital of India after cities like Mumbai and Delhi. Architects must design buildings which are eco-friendly,” said Vijay Sohoni, president of CoA, at the ceremony. Dayananda Pai from the BMS Education Trust stressed on the need for architects to focus on designing for the urban poor besides IT parks and companies. He also announced that a new campus exclusively for Architecture department would soon be built at the college’s Yelahanka campus by next year. He added that an endowment of Rs. 10 lakh would be set up in conjunction with the Council of Architecture to reward students every year. The function was held in association with National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA).
