KOCHI: With the number of viral fever cases reported in the district rising to 1,330, the Kochi Corporation will intensify the remedial measures. The authorities concerned said that the civic body has already initiated steps to strengthen the cleaning operations in the city. Special focus will be given to the need to maintain cleanliness and hygiene to prevent the spreading of contagious diseases. However, District Medical Officer R Sudhakaran said that the situation was not alarming. “Nearly 400 fever cases are being registered every day in the district. The sudden rise in the number is due to the change in climate due to continuous rain,” he said.He said that a medical team from the District Medical Office had already visited the Fort Kochi-Mattanchery areas, Kumbalangi, Palluruthy and other areas where several fever cases were detected.  But he said that more awareness campaigns should be organised to spread awareness among the public to curb the outbreak of contagious diseases. Contaminated food and eating food under unhygienic conditions should be avoided. Be careful while drinking water from outside,” he said.Earlier, the Corporation authorities had said that more awareness campaigns will be organised in the affected areas. “Special medical camps will be conducted at schools,” he said.
