THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Suhaib,35, who allegedly manhandled a doctor and created tension at the Medical College Hospital after his father had died at the same hospital, here was arrested by the Medical College police on Saturday. The police are also searching for his brother Sulfiqar who also physically took on the doctor and shattered the windows of the ICU on Friday. Suhaib has been arrested on charges of physically assaulting the doctor, for deliberately impeding the duty of the doctor and for destroying government property. It was on Friday night that the Medical College Hospital witnessed these ugly scenes after Meera Sahib, the father of Suhaib and Sulfiqar,died in the hospital. The brothers turned violent alleging that the doctors had deliberately delayed the emergency treatment to Meera Sahib despite his critical condition. Although the patient was brought to the hospital in the morning, he was not admitted to the ICU citing that the ICU was not free and consequently the patient died by 10 p.m. the brothers alleged. Balaraman, the doctor who was in charge of the patient was injured in the assault and was admitted to the hospital. The PG doctors took out a march in protest against the assault on the doctor.Black day tomorrowMeanwhile, the Indian Medical Association, Thiruvananthapuram, will observe September 5 as a black day in protest against the assault on doctors at the Medical College Hospital here following the death of a patient. The doctors will wear black badge on the day and will also stage a dharna.
