In a heroic act, a 26-year-old police aspirant, chased down a gang of four that robbed a duo of their cellphones at the Marina Beach on Wednesday.
Police said Muthukumar of Chinthadripet was practising for the physical test when he noticed a gang attacking a duo sitting and fleeing with their mobile phones. In a flash, Muthukumar chased the quartet, simultaneously informing the Police Control Room over the mobile phone about the attack.
In the meantime, a Delta Team under Mylapore DCP R Sudhakar responded to the message from the Control Room. Muthukumar, who had managed to slow down the four, helped the Delta Team nab the gang and recover the phones. Immediately, the information was relayed to the Control Room and the Marina Police Station, following which the gang was arrested.
The arrested were identified as Siva, Kumar, Prabhakaran and Shamugam, all residents of Kannagi Nagar.
Meanwhile, Joint Commissioner of Police SN Seshasai invited Muthukumar to his office and presented him a cash reward. Two personnel of the Delta Team were also rewarded.
Rape Accused Doc to Undergo Test Today
Ajil Kumar (40), an Ayurveda doctor who had allegedly raped a nurse working at Kerala Ayurvedic Health Centre, will be subjected to a medical exam on Friday.
Sources said Ambattur Court had granted police three-day custody of Ajil on July 31. But, he was produced before the court on August 1st itself and lodged in Puzhal Prison. The complainant nurse and the other accused, K R Shijith had undergone the medical examination, but it could not be conducted on Ajil as he had surrendered before a court in Tirunelveli.

A retired Commercial Tax Officer (CTO), Rajesekaran, was arrested by sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) here on Thursday, for allegedly taking bribe of `40,000 from a contractor to release the copy of an order closing a file against him.

An accounts supervisor attached to a TANGEDCO substation, J Sethuraman, was arrested by DVAC on Thursday for accepting a bribe of

A conservancy worker, Nagaraj (25), allegedly suffocated to death after he was exposed to lethal gases while attempting to remove a clog in a septic tank in Adambakkam. Veilankanni of Adambakkam, who hired Nagaraj’s services, was arrested.
