New Delhi: Government has rejected army funding for a film Shaurya on struggles of a war widow in which the Army Chief's wife Anupama Singh also features in a minor role.

"No public money has been spent" on the shooting of the film, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee told Lok Sabha in a written reply.

A close kin of a top army officer is producing the film. Mukherjee told the House that a proposal had been received from a Pune-based company ‘India Connect’ seeking army's assistance for its proposed film titled Shaurya.

The Minister said army's assistance for shooting of the film and television serials was provided as per army order 12/88, if they have the potential to enhance the image of the armed forces subject to payment of charges as per laid down rates and completion of other formalities.

"However, in the case of the film Shaurya, the proposal has not been agreed to by the Ministry of Defence", Mukherjee told BJP member BC Khanduri, a former army official.
