Google has announced its first ever fellowship program for journalism students; it will be a 10-week program.

New Delhi: Here is an interesting piece of information for students studying journalism. Google has come up with its first ever fellowship program for journalism students. So, if you are a student journalist looking to harness the power of technology to tell stories in new ways, then the first ever Google Journalism Fellowship could help make the summer of 2013 one to remember.

It will be a 10-week program that will give eight students the opportunity to contribute to a variety of organisations - from those that are steeped in investigative journalism to those working for press freedom around the world and to those that are helping the industry figure out its future in the digital age.

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2013. The Fellowship will start on June 3, 2013 with the first week at the Knight Foundation in Florida. Fellows will join their host organization on June 10, 2013 and finish with a week at Google in California on August 5, 2013.

Fellows will receive a stipend of $7,500 for 10 weeks during the summer of 2013 (June-August) and a travel budget of $1,000 USD.

"This program will be of particular interest to students studying data journalism, online freedom of expression or new business models for the industry," said Google in a blog post.
