In another hit-and-run involving a luxury car in Mumbai, an Audi rammed into two autorickshaws in Mulund on Monday morning. Both the autorickshaw drivers and a passenger suffered serious injuries and one of them is in critical condition.
Following the collision, the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped. The Mulund Police has seized the car and launched an investigation. The driver, Vijay Dattatreya, 45, was later arrested and is undergoing interrogation and medical examination.
On Sunday, a similar hit-and-run was caught on camera in Pimpri-Chinchwad. A car hit a pedestrian and sped away. The woman escaped with injuries. Eyewitnesses attempted to chase the driver, but were unsuccessful. The Pimpri Police is now searching for the culprit, even though the officials are under scrutiny for their apparent negligence. The CCTV footage has fueled public anger, as citizens demand accountability.

The two add to the recent spate of such incidents witnessed in Mumbai and Pune.
Earlier this month, the son of a Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) leader, in a drunken state, ran over a couple on a motorcycle with his speeding BMW in Worli, resulting in the woman’s death. The accused, Mihir Shah, fled, but was apprehended by police three days later and is currently facing trial.
The Pimpri incident, which came after the high-profile Kalyani Nagar accident, show the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police has learned little from their mistakes and even raised questions on Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaubey.
In the Kalyani Nagar incident, the minor son of a Pune realtor ran over two 24-year-old engineers with his Porsche during a late-night drive in May. The teenager was initially granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board, which also asked him to write a 300-word essay on road accidents, but following outrage over the lenient treatment and a review application by the police, he was sent to an observation home till June 5.
After the case gained media attention, the police also arrested the teenager’s father, realtor Vishal Agarwal, and his grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, in connection with the accident. Two doctors of Pune’s Sassoon Hospital were also arrested later for allegedly manipulating the blood report of the 17-year-old boy accused.
