Akshaya Noon Meal project inaugurated

KOCHI: The Akshaya Noon Meal Project in the Kalamassery constituency was inaugurated by Justice V R Krishna Iyer by handing over his contribution for the project to PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju.The project aims at providing mid-day meal for 11,372 school students in the constituency.  The Public Works Minister presided over the function.“Children should not be denied their right to live. The dream of ‘swaraj’ can only be true, if the children are fed properly,” Krishna Iyer said in his inaugural speech. He said that “food for everybody” should be the motto of younger generation. “You can’t educate a child without providing him food. The rich of this country should help to provide food to the poor rather than crying at their plight.”The project which aims at moulding a healthy generation was materialised under the initiative of V K Ebrahim Kunju, Public Works Minister and Kalamassery MLA.Apart from creating a better ambience for studies, the project emphasises on providing a favourable environment to develop a child’s physical and intellectual needs.Later, Justice Iyer handed over a cheque of Rs 48,000 to Christu Raj College, Kuttipuzha, as part of the project.District Collector P I Sheik Pareeth, P Rajeev MP and Jamal Manakkadan, chairman, Kalamassery Municipality, spoke on the occasion.
