New Delhi: Days after the Unnao rape case drew national outrage, another BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh has been accused of raping a woman when she was a minor.
The woman, in her complaint with Bareilly SSP, has alleged that Badaun’s Bisauli seat MLA Kushagra Sagar raped her for two years on pretext of marriage.
The incident comes days after Unnao BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for raping a woman at his home in UP’s Makhi village in June last year. At that time, the survivor was a ‘minor’.
“When he (Sagar) raped me for the first time, his father Yogendra Sagar (a former MLA) had assured me that he would get his son married to me the day I reach the age of majority," the victim said in her complaint, adding that, however, the MLA’s marriage was later fixed with some other woman.
Threatening to kill herself if the wedding does not takes place, she said, “He is getting married on June 17. I will not let that happen. I shall commit suicide if he does not marry me. I have been getting threat calls and have become a subject of ridicule in the society."

The complainant is the daughter of Sagar's domestic help. His father and former MLA was also booked for rape in 2008.
SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said that they have initiated an investigation into the matter and will take appropriate action soon.
The woman said that since the accused had been elected as MLA, her life had become miserable.
“We are a very poor family. Since my father is unemployed, my mother works as maid in houses at Green Park locality. She often took me to help her. In 2012, when I was 16, I used to go Sagar’s house along with my mother. I came in contact with him. He started talking to me and even promised to marry me. He took advantage of me and raped me several times from 2012 to 2014," a news report quoted her as saying.
“He has ruined my life completely. Now, nobody will marry me. I tolerated all this hoping that one day he would marry me but now he is threatening to kill my family and me if I approached the police," the woman said.
The survivor also said the MLA had offered to settle the matter in exchange for Rs 20 lakh but she refused.
“Circle officer Niti Dwivedi has been tasked with the investigation. Dwivedi reached the woman’s house but she was not there. We will take further action in the matter once the investigation report comes," Naithani told The Times of India.
Meanwhile, Sagar said that his political rivals, who had ruined his father’s political career, now wanted to malign his image by hatching a conspiracy against him. "She had blamed me in 2014 as well but nothing could be proved. I still have the affidavit, he said, adding that the woman is lying about his marriage.
Kushagra’s father, former BSP MLA Yogendra Sagar, has been in jail on charges of rape and murder. He was booked for raping a woman in 2008. During the proceedings of that case, the government counsel Sadhana Sharma was killed in a road accident and subsequently Yogendra was booked under murder charges in 2016.
