Satish Kumar committed suicide and was not murdered, the CBI informs the MMadras High Court.

Sathish Kumar, son of advocate R Sankara Subbu, committed suicide, the CBI submitted in its report filed before the Madras High Court on Thursday.

In his status report filed before a full bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao,  M Venugopal and MM Sundresh, Arun Bothra, DIG, CBI, Spl Crime-II in New Delhi, submitted that investigations revealed that it was a clear case of suicide.

The CBI had made all-out efforts to work out the case with open mind and following all angles suggested by Sankara Subbu and his family members. No evidence could be found regarding any foul play in respect to the death.

The evidence on record - statement of witnessess, documents, medical records, opinion of the scientific experts and the circumstances - revealed that Sathish Kumar committed suicide due to “depression, frustration and his mental condition’’. The probe revealed no other angle in this case.

The report also recommended initiation of major penalty proceedings against the local cops - I Mohd Yusuf (Spl SI), NK Vanitha (SI), A Mohd Nazar and N Suresh Babu (both inspectors) - for omissions and commissions on their part. It also decided to send a self-content note for such action as deemed fit against Dr M Barathan, Assistant Director of Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory, Chennai, for his omissions and commissions.

The final report would be filed before the competent court recommending closure of the case as suicide, the DIG said.

The CBI would, however, take appropriate action if any concrete information was received in this regard, he added, and sought disposal of the case.

Petitioner’s counsel S Prabakaran prayed for the bench to furnish certain documents to prove that it was not a case of suicide and that it was in fact a case of murder.
