Demand action against inspector who allegedly misbehaved with Cuddalore Judicial Magistrate

Lawyers on Friday boycotted court proceedings here demanding action against the police inspector who allegedly misbehaved with the Judicial Magistrate III of the Cuddalore Court, a few days ago.

M Kumaran, an office-bearer of the Pondicherry Bar Association, said that a majority of the 700 lawyers took part in the protest.

Karthikeyan, an inspector of the Cuddalore District Crime Branch, allegedly had an altercation with Judicial Magistrate III Pugazhendi of Cuddalore Court, over submission of stolen articles seized from an accused.

Kumaran contended that the police official should be arrested for lowering the dignity of the court and the magistrate as well. He also sought disciplinary proceedings by the Tamil Nadu police against the inspector, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Lawyers to skip 150th anniv of Madras HC

The executive committee meeting of the Pondicherry Bar Association on Friday decided to abstain from the valedictory function of the 150th year celebrations of the Madras High Court on Saturday.

Kumaran, one of the office-bearers, said that the decision was taken as “proper respect was not given to the Puducherry Government and bar association”.
