Aamir gets reprieve from Gujarat HC in chinkara case
The High Court had issued a notice to the state Forest Department.

New Delhi: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday stayed a lower court's proceedings against actor Aamir Khan in the chinkara case.

The court stayed bailable arrest warrants issued by the Bhuj court against Aamir and four others for allegedly filming chinkaras (a protected species) in his film Lagaan at Jam Kunaria village in Kutch in 2000.

The High Court had issued a notice to the state Forest Department and adjourned the hearing on the case till April 25.

The complaint against Aamir and others was filed by deputy forest officer J V Vyas, as they had not responded to notices sent by the Forest Department.

Aamir, who did not appear before the Bhuj court despite several notices sent to him, approached the Gujarat High Court pleading for a stay on the Bhuj court’s proceedings contending that no chinkara had been used in his movie and the relevant scene that was shown was created using computer graphics.
