8 elected unopposed in DPC polls

Eight candidates have been elected unopposed to the 12-member District Planning Committee as the last date for filing nominations ended on Friday.

The eight District Panchayat members who have been elected unopposed are NV Krishnan (ward 32),Velumani (ward 12), Tamizhselvi (ward 19), Thanigachalam (ward 3), Mani (ward 38), Mahalingam (ward 27), SS Ramesh Kumar (ward 20) and Priya Ramachandran (ward 30).

State Election Commission had proposed a 12-member committee in the district to review the schemes of the government and implement them in the district.

The five nominees remaining in fray are Arakkonam Municipality councillor Jerald Thomas, Town Panchayat councillors Jagannathan from Sholinghur town panchayat, Jayanthi from Odukathur town panchayat and Vellore Corporation councillors Shakeela and Viji.
