MYSORE: The waste generated in the first two rounds of cleaning in the central business district of the city, a day after the Jambu Savari procession, stood at a staggering 65 tonnes.This is four times more than what the same area generates normally and a little more than one-sixth of the waste generated in the entire city on a normal day.Civic workers who are sweeping the city squeaky clean, are feeling the heat.An army of about 150 pourakarmikas (civic workers) were seen clearing piles of filth left behind by the lakhs of tourists who had come to to watch the Jambu Savari.Cleaning was carried out in three rounds on October 6 and 7. Sweepers were seen all around the central business district that witnessed huge crowds a day before.Mysore City Corportion Health Officer Nagaraj said that the core of the city, comprising Albert Victor Road, Devraj Urs Road, Sayyaji Rao Road, Dhanvantri Road, Seshadri Iyer Road, Vinobha Road, Ashoka Road, B N Road, was the centre of focus. The civic workers waited until the crowds thinned out on the streets on Thursday night to clean them. Nagaraj added that more than 90 per cent of the garbage has been cleared off the streets.
