The elderly are like a blessing in our homes, especially our grandparents. Their presence ensures tonnes of love and affection and a sense of security. Local18 team went to an elderly lady from the state of Telangana, who engages in artwork and singing in her spare time.
The woman is named Lakshmamma, a resident of Godavarikhani Power House Colony, in the Peddapalli district, Telangana. She is a 60-year-old retired employee who loves writing as well as singing songs. Local18 states that she spends her time singing songs from her childhood while working around the house. She prefers to keep herself busy.
Talking to Local18, Lakshamma said that she learned singing from her grandmother around 50 years ago when she was herself a child. So, after she learned to sing, she taught herself to write songs. According to her, she used to sing during the festival of Bathukamma and its celebrations at home, along with other celebratory events. Even though she was a very talented singer, no one thought of it as something to take to the world stage, added Lakshamma. She had responsibilities of marriage and children to take care of, which kind of became a hindrance to her dreams.
She wrote songs with beautiful meanings and even at 60, her voice is as melodious as ever. The elderly woman hopes to remember all the songs she wrote years ago and continue her writing whenever she gets the time. According to her, she has written hundreds of songs.
Lakshamma said, “The pain of not being able to prove my talent at a young age will always be in my mind, but in recent times, I have seen a lot of adults singing songs.” She is waiting for someone to discover her and give her a chance, which is long due.
