BHUBANESWAR: The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Kolkata, will hold a five-day Natya Utsav in association with the Tourism and Culture Department here from Tuesday. Five selected Bengali, Hindi, two Oriya and Manipuri plays will be staged during the festival in a bid to popularise theatre in the region. On the inaugural day, Manipur-based Kala Khetra troupe will stage Assamese play ‘Dhaka Ghar’ directed by H Kanhaiyalal. Bibhas Chakraborthy’s ‘Hamlet’, to be performed by Anya Theatre of West Bengal, and ‘Natakara Chitrakar’, directed by Ajit Das and to be performed by Bhubaneswar-based Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre will be staged on September 14 and September 15 respectively. Dhira Mallick’s ‘Rudhha Dwara’ will be staged by Shatabdi Ra Kalakar Group on September 16. The festival will wind up with Hindi play ‘Full Nautanki Vilas’, directed by Abhaya Sinha. It will be staged by Bihar-based Pragan Theatre troupe. The EZCC organisers told mediapersons here on Monday said holding of such festivals would provide a platform to the region’s budding theatre artistes.
