"27 gold biscuits, one gold bar and eight gold rods have been seized from the person," a senior officer said.

Kolkata: BSF troops on Thursday seized over 5 kgs of gold, including 27 biscuits made of the yellow metal, when the cache was being smuggled across West Bengal's border with Bangladesh.

Officials said that a Border Security Force patrol early on Thursday morning apprehended a person from Amudia border post area of North 24 Parganas district when he was carrying the cache in a suspicious manner.

"27 gold biscuits, one gold bar and eight gold rods have been seized from the person. The total weight of the seized items is 5.8 kg and the value of the goods is estimated to be Rs 1.65 crore," a senior officer said.

The person, who hails from the same district, has been handed over to local police, he said.
